FIRSTday

There he is - the 3 year old Riley - so cute as a button - on his first day of 3 year old preschool. It was a non-event for him. We walked right on in and he put his backpack in it's place and said "bye mom" and was off playing with kids he didn't know. Didn't phase him a bit. He did have the BIGGEST smile on his face when we picked him up - it was like picking your girls up in White House DD - we have a school pickup number and everything... Oh, and speaking of that - I still have Leigha's pick up number in the van - how silly is it of me to hold on to that - but I love it! :-) I was a bit teary driving off, but Reed started fussing, so I had to toss a toy back there - kind of nice to have a distraction!

Riley said he liked his teachers, even though he couldn't remember their names. He also said he didn't know any of the kids names either. I asked what his favorite thing of the day was and he said, without hesitating, "snack time" - shoot, he is my son, that's for sure! :-) They had goldfish and juice and the way he talked about it, it could have been ice cream and cake!!! His class days are Tuesday and Thursday, so we will see how Tuesday goes. :-)

As far as Riles and what he is in to these days... well, he loves riding his John Deere tractor around the circle in the cul-de-sac. He's learned how to make it skid to a stop and thinks that is way cool. He likes pretend - a lot. Sometimes he's a dog (thank you Anna Brooke :-)), sometimes he's Leigha, AnnaBrooke or McKenna (i guess sara kate will come in after our visit in november), other times he's daddy, or autin, or silas. Cracks me up. Another thing he's started doing is reading books himself - of which I love. He's memorized a lot of his books - his favorites, and he's read them before, but he's started making up the stories of books he hasn't even read much. He just reads what he thinks would be going on based on the picture. Makes me smile so much. He likes roaring - acting like a race car - racing me in the driveway (running in our running shoes) - drinking chocolate milk - eating popsicles - and watching StoryKeepers videos. He still walks on his toes a lot and loves changing in to his pjs for nap time. He's like his momma and loves pajamas. He also sure does love his baby brother - and he loves picking on him too. He loves cuddling with Reed and Reed loves it as well. They are a good pair - those two. And, last but not least, he loves being silly and I have NO IDEA where that comes from... So, I'll wrap up the post with the best posed picture I could get of him with his backpack on - he was not wanting to have his picture made!!!

That's our boy!!! We sure do love him!!!

So sweet, Mel! Libby was the same way when she started preschool this year as well. I am glad to hear that Riley likes to get in his jammies for naptime -- it is a requirement for Libby I think. Then of course she changes into a different outfit after her nap -- such a girlie girl! Missed you at Spanish Friday -- have a safe trip out of town, we would love to see you at Shannon's for Bunco -- I need a good laugh fest! KML

He is SO CUTE! His first day sounds a little like Annie's, which was four years ago. Time sure does go by quickly! She has always been a bit on the independent side of things. I hope he has a good day Tuesday. (You too!!)

I love it! I can't believe he is so big. Nick and Caroline can't think of him as a baby anymore that is for sure. Riley you look very handsome. We hope you love school as much as Nick and Caroline. Keep up that reading. It is great for you!

I keep reading blogs of friends with kids heading off to preschool... and everyone is talking about that teary moment. Last year when I dropped off Lauren Clay for her first day, I wasn't just teary; I completed melted down in front of the teacher! Of course, I was having to head to campus to teach a challenging class (so maybe the tears were more about where I was going than what I was leaving...) but the teacher assured me that lots of tears are shed that first day. Let's get together soon for some laughs-- we've missed you all!
